Meghna Singh Patpatia

VISUAL ARTIST

Artist Statement

Meghna’s art practice explores mixed mediums including detailed ink drawings, handmade papers, textiles, found object assemblages, magnifying glass, tools used for examining and observing, fragile mediums that explore natural forms synergising and adapting to imagined environments.

The study of creature behaviour and adaptation is inspired by mythological, historical and faerie elements. Along with these she creates connections through epochs bygone and unfurling. Sentient beings and natural elements are constant witnesses to changes in our biodiversity and terrain. She believes in honouring them by drawing them in diverse environments with repetitive patterns weaving them into transformative shifts and surreal portals.

The phenomenon of Transverse orientation, where all living organisms are drawn to light created a curiosity to observe natural formations impacted by the environment. Wherein consciously and unconsciously sentient beings are drawn to light, like a moth to flame. To this there is a parallel drawn of natural resources disappearing because of manmade intervention in the name of progress. Meghna encapsulates this phenomenon in her own practice through varied explorations reflecting our changing landscapes.

Along with her own art practice, she also dabbles in various other art related pursuits like art therapy and art restoration.
